Why see a hygienist?
However carefully you brush, there are areas, especially around the back teeth, where plaque gradually builds up. Left alone, that can lead to bad breath, gum disease and eventually tooth loss.
Our hygiene care ranges from a simple scale and polish with one of our dentists on the NHS to private appointments with our hygienists. We generally recommend a hygiene visit every three to six months; patients with advanced gum disease may need a short course of treatment first.

Not at all. It's simply a deeper, more professional clean of your teeth and gums.
My gums sometimes bleed. What should I do?
Book a check-up. Bleeding gums can be an early sign of gum disease (gingivitis), and that's exactly the stage where it's easiest to treat, usually with a good clean and a few tips for brushing at home.
